When a video of a nursing home caregiver punching and kicking an 84-year-old woman went viral, residents were understandably outraged.
The video reportedly depicts a caregiver beating the senior woman, Hope Shepherd, at the Berea Gardens Retirement Foundation Lily Kirchmann home in East London.
As the caregiver tries to assist Shepherd into bed, she unleashes several punches and kicks to the elderly person when she becomes enraged following the elderly woman’s defiance.
You’ll witness the 84-year-old sitting in bed and repeatedly trying to stand up and walk out of the room.
Shepherd simply wanted to get out of bed but the caregiver would not let her do that. Because of the resistance, Shepherd tried to fight back which made the caregiver elbow the old woman in the back of the head.
However, the employee wasn’t done administering her beating.
But then the nursing home employee started punching her in the face and pulling her hair. The tension continued to escalate and has since been shared with the world on YouTube.
The caregiver identified as Ncendiswa Mkencele was fired from her job and is now facing a police investigation.
Mkencele regrets her actions but says Shepherd threw feces in her face and called her racial slurs in order to start a fight. There have been other complaints about Shepherd where she violently attacked other nursing home employees so she seems to have a case.
