There are countless experiments that have been done about the effects of Coca-Cola, like what happens when you mix it with milk. Some of these experiments paint this classic beverage in a very unflattering light — especially the video where a lady cleans her toilet with coke. Eww.
But did you know that coke is often a kitchen staple for many chefs out there? Cooks everywhere are stocking up on this famous fizz and using it as a marinade! One person uses it to marinate chicken and in the video below they use it to marinate steak! Sorted Food is a hit cooking YouTube channel run by an adorable group of British friends who show viewers how to make odd, yet delicious dishes.
In this episode they’re breaking it down and showing us how to make BBQ Cola steak! The three of them take you through the process of making the marinade for this rump steak recipe. First, they make the marinade out of onions, chili pepper, garlic, smoked paprika, tomato puree, soy sauce and, of course, coke. Once the marinade is prepared they let the steak soak in it for at least 2-3 hours, but preferably overnight.
Then, they prepare the potatoes and corn on the cob. Once everything is all said and done, it’s time to cook the steak! When they take the piece of meat out of the marinade it has a completely different color and texture than it did before, as a result of the coke in the marinade. And this is exactly what the chef was going for! When they finally dig in the meal looks absolutely amazing! I think I know what I’m making for my next barbecue!
