Missing Boy of 13 Years Finally Found After Applying to College

Not knowing where your child is or how he or she is being treated is one of the hardest things you will have to face. The waiting, worrying and never knowing can take an immense emotional and physical toll. The roller coaster of emotions is too much for one to bear. One minute a surge of hope, another minute a depth of despair. It will threaten your very sanity. One mother has had those feelings to contend with for 13 years.

But now her son has been found.

Julian Hernandez, was just 5 years old when he disappeared. The now 18-year-old was recently found alive living with his father in Cleveland, Ohio. Julian attempted to apply to college, but red flags were raised when there were issues with his Social Security number. According to Mashable, he approached a school counselor, who was trying to help when she realized Hernandez was listed as missing by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Bobby Hernandez, 53, was arrested and is being held at a jail in Ohio. The FBI received a tip that the teenage boy may be the long-missing child after problems he encountered when attempting to apply for college.

When his identity was confirmed, his mother was notified of his recovery. She was very happy to hear he had been found but was also slightly skeptical because there had been many false leads in the search for him throughout the years.

His father has been charged and is being held at the Cuyahoga County Jail on a $250,000 bond. It is not known if Julian knew he was missing, but he lived alongside a woman and two other children in his father’s house.
