Police Find Baby Abandoned on Side of the Road. Who Calls In To Identify Her Is the Surprising Part

The mother of a baby found abandoned by the side of the road has come forward after seeing news about her daughter online.

As ABC News reports, police in Anne Arundel County, Maryland received reports late Saturday night about an abandoned child on the side of the road. When they responded, they found a two to three-month-old girl in a car seat carrier.McClary

After taking the baby to the hospital to be treated for dehydration, police posted about the incident on Facebook, hoping to gather more information about the abandoned child.

Initially, police speculated that the baby may have been the victim of an accident.

“The child was found in a car seat carrier on the side of the road,” they wrote. “Scuff marks on the carrier and other debris indicate that the carrier may have fell off of a moving vehicle.”

After seeing the posted requests for information, Sandra Clara McClary came forward and identified herself as the baby’s mother.

Though she initially told officers that she believed the baby’s father was supposed to be taking care of her, police investigators later determined that McClary had intentionally removed the baby from her car and left the girl on the side of the road.

McClary has been charged with child neglect and reckless endangerment. According to Anne Arundel Police, the baby is doing well and is currently in the custody of social services.

Thankfully the baby was rescued before she suffered any harm. By responding to the Facebook plea and turning herself in, McClary acknowledged her guilt and showed a flicker of remorse. Hopefully this will serve as a wake up call for her.
