A mother and father are in jail after gas station clerks found a 9-month-old baby on the side of the road.
Angela Bumbalough says she glanced out the window of the Petro Fast in Rabbittown and saw something on the side of the road.
She says she was shocked to find a baby in a car seat.
“He was there, a car seat, strapped in. He had a bottle and jar of Vaseline in his car seat. Beautiful baby boy,” Bumbalough said.
Bumbalough says the mom arrived at the gas station about 10 minutes after she found the baby.
The mother, Heather Demonia, demanded clerks give her baby back, but Bumbalough says she didn’t know if the woman was actually the mother.
Police say the father, Thomas Broome, also returned to the gas station.
Both Demonia and Broome were arrested and charged with reckless conduct.
Nicole Bailes with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office says the child was left on the side of the road as a result of a domestic dispute between Demonia and Broome.
“They set the child out on the side of the road, and one left on foot, because they were arguing, and the other left in a vehicle,” Bailes said.
The sheriff’s office says there are signs of neglect on the child, and they will seek additional charges.
The child is in protective custody.
