Woman Shocked After Rushing to ER to Hear Major Infection is from Where She Put Her Hair Tie

How many of you wear hair ties around your wrist just in case you ever need to quickly pull your hair out of your face?

Well, as it turns out, wearing a certain kind of hair tie on your wrist can wreak serious havoc on your health.

According to WLKY, Audree Kopp was moving into her new home when she noticed a bump the size of a quarter on the inner side of her right wrist. She tells WLKY, the bump just kept getting “bigger and redder and worse.”

After going to the hospital the first time, doctors put Audree on an antibiotic. Still, the bump continued to grow and Audree was rushed to the ER where she was forced to undergo emergency surgery.

According to a post on Audree’s Facebook, it was discovered she had three different bacterial infections — strep, staph, and poly negative — all of which were contracted after the hair tie she was wearing on her wrist gave her a tiny scratch.

The post reads in part:

“The GLITTER tie is the one that caused this issue. It rubbed a tiny scratch on my wrist, and the bacteria from the tie jumped in…causing a life threatening bacterial infection.”

Audree’s doctor advises those who do wear hair ties on their wrist to make sure they are ones that can be easily kept clean.

“Make sure they’re the plastic no slip ones I posted [in the bottom right hand corner], and make sure when washing your hands, you go up your wrist and wash the tie.”

The mother of one is thankful to be on the mend, but admits she was shocked by her diagnosis and couldn’t believe all of it was the result of receiving a scratch from a hair tie.

Audree says she won’t be sporting hair ties on her wrist again any time soon and hopes others out there who do, are aware of the potential dangers they can bring.
