Asking your girlfriend to marry you is one thing, but asking her super strict drill sergeant father to help out? You’d have to be nuts!
But Thomas Walker, who is now retired from the military, jumped at the chance to help his daughter’s boyfriend propose, and did so in typical military fashion.
Immediately after his graduation ceremony for Air Force Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, last May, the young groom-to-be arranged to have his future father-in-law call him to attention:
“Is it true that you love my daughter?”
“Yes, sir!”
“Is it your intention and desire to marry my daughter?”
“Yes, sir!”
“You must promise me, that you will love my daughter,” Walker shouted. “Honor her, respect her, support her. Can you do this?”
“Yes, sir!”
Walker turned to his daughter, Courtney, and ordered her to face her boyfriend:
“Courtney Walker, front and centre.”
Courtney’s future mother-in-law took over from Walker.
“Courtney Walker?” she asked.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Do you love my son?”
When still-surprised Courtney confirmed that she did, both parents then offered their blessing — and warned them of spoiled grandchildren.
