When you think of discovering long lost pirate treasure, the idea of treasure maps quickly comes to mind. Marked with a big red X, the romantic notion of hidden booty, along with piles and piles of gold and silver doubloons guarded by the ghost of an angry pirate, is an image that will get anyone excited for adventure!
It all started when the previous renter of an old storage unit passed away. With no relatives to contact, the unit eventually went up to have its contents auctioned off to the highest bidder. After an intense bidding process, a relative “rookie” in the world of storage auctions managed to win the prize and won the storage unit with a $600 bid.
When the other bidders saw what this rookie had won himself, they were all certainly kicking themselves. In the back of that old abandoned storage unit, hidden away in a plastic tub, over $500,000 worth of gold and silver coins were discovered.
The pirate bounty was so heavy that the man who won the bidding war needed the assistance of three other people to carry his winnings to the back of his truck. Now that’s what I call a big booty!
