Nicholas Anderson had planned the perfect proposal with the help of his girlfriend’s son, Brighton, WCNC reports.
But things went slightly awry just before Nick was about to pop the question to Deanna.
The plan was for Nick to ask Deanna at a local restaurant called Salsarita in North Carolina, but while the three of them were sitting in their booth, a man barged in to rob the Mexican restaurant.
That’s when Nick sprung into action, putting the robber in a choke hold.
“He knew how to take control of the situation,” Deanna tells WCNC.
The other customers in the restaurant applauded Nick’s valiant efforts, and Nick managed to keep the proposal a secret, until he and Brighton were able to initiate “Plan B.”
“After all that happened, asking her to marry me wasn’t near as bad,” Nick tells WCNC.
And a surprised Deanna happily said, “yes!”
