I can’t think of better video to help us honor our brave soldiers this Independence Day. In just 90 seconds, battery brand Duracell manages to touch hearts everywhere, leaving us grabbing for the tissues.
As a father places batteries into a stuffed bear, he records a special message for his little girl. “I love you, baby girl.” His daughter quickly falls in love with the bear. After all, it’s the most realistic connection to Dad while he’s fighting overseas. It’s so bittersweet to watch the girl find her only comfort in this sweet stuffed animal.

After the folks at Duracell stumbled upon this story during a market research visit, they enlisted actors to re-enact the scenes. “We were basically in the house of this family and we asked the daughter to show off her favorite toy,” said the company’s brand manager, Ramon Velutini. “We were expecting regular toys — remote control cars and all this — and they came running with this battery-powered bear.” Duracell will also make a $100,000 donation to the United Service Organizations’ Comfort Crew for Kids, which provides support for the children of U.S. soldiers.
