According to reports from NBC Los Angeles, police in Inglewood, California are searching for two men in connection with the kidnapping, after multiple witnesses told officers they saw it firsthand.

“I wouldn’t call this a good neighborhood, but I wouldn’t expect that to happen,” Sasha Sanders, who was shopping in the complex Saturday, told NBC News.

Around the same time the kidnapping took place, police said two men matching descriptions of the alleged abductors were also caught on a surveillance camera shoplifting from a nearby store. Inglewood Police released a statement, saying the men “approached the victims as they were walking to their car.”

“Once at the driver’s door the suspects forced the victim to turn over her car keys, then forced her and the child to the rear of the vehicle, opened the trunk and forced them both inside,” the release said. “After closing the trunk both suspects entered the passenger compartment of the victim’s vehicle.” Despite multiple witness accounts testifying the kidnapping took place, there have been no missing persons reports filed for a woman and baby in the area since Saturday.

While Lt. Jacqueline Layne told the L.A. Times they “haven’t confirmed a crime”, the department still launched an investigation into the possible kidnapping.

Police are looking for the missing woman, who’s described as a black female wearing jeans, a denim jacket, and a mutli-colored head scarf, and her baby, who’s described as having braids, wearing a pink shirt and a diaper.
