Hasselback Baked Apples Are a Thing and They’re About To Change Your Life For The Better

For my family, desserts are the best part of the meal. I am sure we are not alone. One of my favorites is baked apples. The pleasant aroma wafting through the house is the one of the best baking scents. Not only are baked apples absolutely delicious, but they are also very good for you.

For this recipe, you will need 2 large firm apples, peeled, cored, and halved vertically, cooking spray, 4 tablespoons brown sugar divided, 2½ tablespoons butter, melted and divided, ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon divided, 2 tablespoons old-fashioned rolled oats, 1 teaspoon all-purpose flour, ¼ teaspoon kosher salt, and 1½ cups low-fat vanilla ice cream.

After preheating your oven to 400°, in a bowl pour in one portion of the sugar, cinnamon, melted butter and mix well. Prepare your apples by peeling, removing the core and cutting in half. Make slices along each and place them in a baking dish prepared with cooking spray. Brush the apples with the sugar mixture, cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes.

In another bowl, mix the other portion of sugar, butter, cinnamon, rolled oats, flour, salt and mix well. Open up the slices in the apples and pour on the mixture. Bake for another 10 minutes. The scent should be magical at this point.

Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and you’ve got yourself a heaven sent dessert!
